EDNA II
Reading Program (for Grades 4 and Up)
EDNA II is a dynamic,
effective reading intervention program for older children - grade 4 and
above - who have not learned the essential lifeskill of reading.
EDNA II is the companion
program to EDNA, Early Detection Necessary Action, which targets younger
at-risk readers in grades K through 3.
All programs provided by
Teach Them To Read are Research Based Programs as identified by
the Report of the National Reading Panel.
The EDNA II reading program has also
been used successfully in After Hours and Summer School Programs.
The EDNA
II Reading Program Features:
Ten weeks of
intensive reading instruction produces results equivalent to one full
year of regular reading instruction. Because of the accelerated nature
of this program, students realize immediate, dramatic improvements in
reading.
Students are
taught with effective and efficient instruction which maximizes the
available time. After the student is taught, he/she reads under the
teacher's supervision.
EDNA II makes
students good effective readers. In order to play "catch up", students
are required to do the work of reading that they should have been doing
all along.
Materials
Used in the Program
Teachers are provided with
all of the resource materials they will need to teach the EDNA II
Program: teaching materials, support materials and books.
Almost all of the books used
to teach EDNA II are historical fiction or non-fiction so students
further advance the content area of social studies at the same time.
Why is
the program so effective?
A strategic combination of
proper instruction on behalf of the teacher, appropriate materials and
intensive practice on behalf of the student produces dramatic results.
Because students make such tremendous progress, they become highly
motivated which in turn produces even greater results.
Students read 25
new pages of print a day; they reread or practice this same material
twice which equals 75 pages a day. For the year, EDNA II students read
on average 13,500 pages.
In just one year
of EDNA II instruction, students make an average gain of three years.

Stop
the Cycle
"Students who do not learn
to read are at great risk. Research shows that 92% of behavior
problems, drop-outs and suicide, in the most extreme cases, are linked
to poor reading skills."
